Calf Stretch

For about a month, my husband was complaining about his knee hurting a lot, especially when he was in the car driving. He'd have to ice it every night to help ease the pain. We thought we had to resign to having to go get an MRI...that is until he thought he should try one more thing.  He went to our shop with his buddy - (a personal fitness trainer and former pro wrestler) and our in-house physical therapist Wesley Chun. This simple stretch done everyday for a week, rid Pat of his knee pain while driving. I hope this will help some of you experiencing the same problem. Those of you doing any type of dance fitness should also incorporate this calf stretch into your daily routine. It only takes 20 seconds

Practice your Moves!

I put this 5 min rhythmic music video together for you so you could practice at home! Apply the moves you've learned in class.   I've added some suggestions for you - but of course you can mix it up. First do just your hip motions, then replay, do just your hand/ arm motions - replay - and put them all together - adding 1/4 turns, 1/2 turns and full turns...you get the idea. Remember to start off with your  knees always bent - pelvis forward - straight back - shoulders relaxed - fingers together and Enjoy!

Paea

This is a very popular Tahitian drum beat routine "The Paea" The rhythmic set repeats 16 times. It's a standard number in the Polynesain dancers repertoire - relatively easy to learn for beginners. There's a variety of choreographed variations of this otea - below is just one example. We would do a shortened version of Paea just after doing audience participation in some of our shows.

What Body Type are You?

ANYONE can do Aloha Allure dance fitness - n o matter what your body type!  If you're wanting to lose weight, there is no way around it - you must do some form of exercise and cut your caloric intake. (unless of course your hormones are out of whack- that's for a different blog) For instance, i f your body type is Pear shaped aka  Meso-endomorph and you want to  lose weight in your belly  - doing a hundred sit ups will stregthen you abdominals but the horrible fact is you'll first begin to loose the weight in your  upper body,or your ankles and the last place to give up that extra poundage is the part you want the most to slim down.  I know (for me) the first place I loose weight is my face & neck, then my shoulders, followed by my waist, calves, upper hips, butt and tummy and finally the thighs. My body shape at the moment is a pear, but when I'm fit - it's more of an hour glass.  When you start any exercise program, your body goes in to a sort
