What Body Type are You?

ANYONE can do Aloha Allure dance fitness - no matter what your body type!

If you're wanting to lose weight, there is no way around it - you must do some form of exercise and cut your caloric intake. (unless of course your hormones are out of whack- that's for a different blog)

For instance, if your body type is Pear shaped aka Meso-endomorph and you want to lose weight in your belly  - doing a hundred sit ups will stregthen you abdominals but the horrible fact is you'll first begin to loose the weight in your upper body,or your ankles and the last place to give up that extra poundage is the part you want the most to slim down.

I know (for me) the first place I loose weight is my face & neck, then my shoulders, followed by my waist, calves, upper hips, butt and tummy and finally the thighs. My body shape at the moment is a pear, but when I'm fit - it's more of an hour glass.

When you start any exercise program, your body goes in to a sort of shock and does it's best to hang on to those extra pounds that it's come to know and love over the past 10-20 years. So be consistent, do your dance fitness exercise 4-6 days a week!  Be your own parent - discipline yourself - for 90 days - the days are going to go by anyway so might as well commit yourself to getting fit and feeling better. Don't get discouraged and don't give up on your fitness & nutritional journey...although you may not be seeing the results right away - all the dance exercise you're doing is secretly working it's magic underneath it all (behind the scene) - muscles are building, getting stronger, bone density is increasing, energy levels and mood swings are improving, your metabolism is speeding up, you're burning more fat. It just may take more time than we seem to have patience for...but...

Before you know it, you suddenly realize that your clothes are fitting  a tad looser, you have now lost a half inch off of your waist, your complexion is looking better and your eyes are brighter, you have more flexibility and your back and knee pain have lessened, and people see that you're energetic and happier! Oh, and the bonus - you've learned some new & sexy dance moves!

Take it one day at a time - Understand your body shape, embrace it, and take good care of it - you deserve it!

Hula on ladies xoxo

Female Ectomorph

Female ectomorphs are waif-like and slim, with thin necks, shoulders, hips, wrists, calves, and ankles – a “ruler” shape. Ectomorphs usually put on weight in their stomach and upper hips, while maintaining slender arms and legs. Taller female ectomorphs tend to be slightly more muscular and are often skilled at endurance sports, but lack the ability to develop curves without the proper exercise program. However, they usually have a great deal of physical endurance and have the longest natural life spans for females. There is sometimes a slight differentiation between a Female Ectomorphs and a Female Mesomorphs (Female Ecto-Mesomorphs) as many women seem to be on a border between the two.

Catherine Ndereba, Sun Yingjie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Thandie Newton are examples of Female ectomorphs. Cameron Diaz is a taller ectomorph and Katherine Heigl is an example of a borderline Female Ecto-Mesomorph.

Female Mesomorph

Female mesomorphs tend to have a classic “hourglass” shape, with wide shoulders and hips, and a distinctively narrow waist. They tend to both gain weight and lose weight proportionally in the hips and buttocks, upper back and chest, and have curvy bodies that balance out a bikini top and bottom. A slight weight gain can appear sizeable because the mesomorph’s body fat easily hides muscle. This type tends to be very athletic and good at a variety of sports and activities. As stated before there is sometimes a slight differentiation between a Female Ectomorphs and a Female Mesomorphs (Female Ecto-Mesomorphs) as many women seem to be on a border between the two.

Jessica Simpson, Beyonce, Scarlett Johannson, Britney Spears, and Jessica Biel are examples of mesomorphs.

Female Meso-endomorph

Because of the biological tendency for females to carry more fat than males, female meso-endomorphs are far more common than the male equivalent cross of an ectomorph and mesomorph. They tend to have mid-thickness waists and ankles, small to medium size shoulders and chests, and wider hips – a “pear” shape. Although out-of-shape meso-endomorphs appear to have a frail upper body with a disproportionately large lower body, they can easily create balance with a proper exercise program.

Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Hurley, Kim Kardashian, and Minnie Driver are examples of in-shape meso-endomorphs.

Female Endomorph

Female endomorphs are generally bigger on the top half of their bodies than on the bottom. They commonly have narrow hips and a large chest and stomach, with a curvaceous “apple” shape. Endomorphs tend to gain weight above the waist or along the buttocks. They are typically good at cardiovascular endurance, but can easily put on weight without a customized exercise and nutrition program. Since Female Endomorphs usually have more body fat they are more prone to diseases like heart disease and diabetes which results in Female Endomorphs having the shortest natural lifespan.

Queen Latifah, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Coolidge, Star Jones and Alex Borstein are examples of endomorphs.
