Michael Josephson Commentary: Life-Changing Pearls of Wisdom 703.6

Michael Josephson Commentary: Life-Changing Pearls of Wisdom 703.6 Happy New Year! I wish you a year of challenge, fulfillment, and inner-peace. That's sincere but not so profound. So on this New Year's Day I will dispense with my need to make original, insightful observations about life and just share with you some of my favorite pearls of wisdom that have life-changing capacity. People are just about as happy as they’re willing to be. — Abraham Lincoln Don't mistake pleasures for happiness. They’re a different breed of dog. — Josh Billings No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. — Eleanor Roosevelt The problem with the rat race is that even if you win, you're still a rat. — Lily Tomlin Think about what you want people to say about you after you die and live backward. — Unknown People won't always remember what you say or do but they will remember how you made them feel. — Maya Angelou When you’re in a hole, stop digging. — Unknow

Kini - THEN & NOW

You just watched a video of Kini when she was 7 years old...she started learning Polynesian dance at the age of 2 from here Aunt Tani Okalani. Tani is still one of the best Polynesian choreographers in the United States, as well as being an award winning female Fire Knife and Fire Poi Balls performer. (see video below) Let's fast forward to the present Hula-Kini-ONa-Okalani Kini is now married with 3 beautiful children. She is teaching hula as well as dances from the Polynesian Islands…such as Maori, Tahiti, and the heart of Polynesia - Samoa. Kini has been teaching hula for over 15 years, at various locations such as the city of Monterey Park~Parks and Recreation, numerous Elementary Schools, and private & group lessons. "I feel blessed to have been taught from my Aunty and now carry on my family’s legacy and tradition branching off from the Okalani’s Polynesian Revue.” Kini Today Her love for dance and hula is in

When we were Young

Ahhh, to be young again. Our bodies moved with grace and without pain...not a second thought was given to the many hours of practice and nightly fast paced shows. Fast forward to the present: stop dancing, start a family, work, no time to exercise......suddenly 20 years and 40 extra pounds later... back pain never seems to let up, right knee decides to betray me...knee surgery needed...... What the heck is going on?  I'm going to spend the second half of my life feeling yucky? I don't think so....maybe I should start doing things I loved when I was younger.... dance!   Mix it up with exercise! Thank goodness you're never too old to start up again. Truth be told, I for one, don't like to exercise, but I love to dance and by mixing it up (traditional fitness with dance) I have been able to to reduce my back lower back pain 99% just by getting back into Hula/ Tahitian Fusion Exercise. Seems like a bit of a contradiction -  you'd think it would be too much st

Okalani's Polynesian Revue - Don The Beachcombers

Every so often we would have to do a number that had nothing to do with the hula - such as "Star Wars" or "The Raisins" "The Okalani Raisins" & "Luau Tonight" is a take off of 2 commercials that were big in the '80's . Here are the original commercials: Our fearless leader Janie, thought it would be fun to do a Hawaiian take-off of these commercials and here it is: I remember having to do this number "The Okalani Raisins" and dreading it. But now looking back, it's one of my favorites to watch - makes me smile - and I'm so glad we have it on tape to share with you. On this particular night we had Janie, Kini, Lyn-Del & Kath dancing... all of whom  have grown children of their own and I really hope their kids watch this to see how silly their mommy's were when they were younger. Fun memories!!! All costumes for the Okalani Polynesian Revue were made my Alice Oka - she was
