When we were Young





Ahhh, to be young again. Our bodies moved with grace and without pain...not a second thought was given to the many hours of practice and nightly fast paced shows.

Fast forward to the present: stop dancing, start a family, work, no time to exercise......suddenly 20 years and 40 extra pounds later... back pain never seems to let up, right knee decides to betray me...knee surgery needed......
What the heck is going on?  I'm going to spend the second half of my life feeling yucky? I don't think so....maybe I should start doing things I loved when I was younger....dance!  Mix it up with exercise!

Thank goodness you're never too old to start up again. Truth be told, I for one, don't like to exercise, but I love to dance and by mixing it up (traditional fitness with dance) I have been able to to reduce my back lower back pain 99% just by getting back into Hula/ Tahitian Fusion Exercise. Seems like a bit of a contradiction -  you'd think it would be too much stress on your back - quite the opposite. I'm excited that this fun and rather sexy form of exercise will truly make the the second half of my life very exciting!

Green Rose Hula

The green rose is called the "leaf rose". Laida Paia, Mrs. James Keoni Willis, a member of John Almeida's trio composed this mele (song) although it has always been attributed to John  Kameaaloha Almeida . She was the mother of Koko Willis and John  Kameaaloha Almeida  acknowledged and always gave her due credit when he performed it, especially when Koko or other members of her family were in the audience.
